We have known for some time that in reality, live internet tv is not much of a threat to the big wire companies, yet. But they know, just as we do. That as streaming gets faster and more promptly available, and internet enabled devices flourish, the threat of cord cutters will become much larger. CEO of Comcast, Brian Roberts speaking at the Cable Show, downplayed the internet tv threat, and promptly changed tact and said he was worried!
He said:- “There’s not any real evidence that consumers want to get rid of my distribution, whether it’s artificial satellite, cable, or phone, and just go to the Internet”…But the Comcast chief said that he has expressed concerns all but cord cutting off, and celebrated that he has had antecedently expressed more consternation about the trend than one of his top lieutenants, Comcast COO Steve Burke. “This is where Steve Burke and I are very different people. He wakes up every day, and the glass is half full. I wake up every day and the sky is falling,” Roberts said.Comcast know what they are talking about, and are suitable to be worried.Comcast, along with the other cable companies have low consumer satisfaction rates and keep upping the subscription costs.
Meanwhile Comcast are fighting off the internet tv threat with their own online tv on demand construct, TV Everywhere available to subscribers only supplying a modified selection of paywalled TV content. Success for the iPad will be largely down to it’s media features, from reading ebooks to its amazing internet tv features All this activity is impulsive content providers in a migration to support the browser-based open standard, HTML5. Multiple broadcasters are tweaking their online services to support this standard, as well as the iPad.
ABC have had success with their catch up tv app, Netflix have a movies on demand app and tv on demand king Hulu, is expected to introduce its own iPad app later this month, bringing the Secondly most popular video streaming service after YouTube to Apple’s new baby (although we are not sure if it’s loss to be free).
