Gerd Harry Lybke from Galerie EIGEN+ART talks about the paintings by David Schnell with Jody van den Villaart from Art.sy at the annual Armory Show 2010 which showcases fine contemporary art around the world every year in New York City.

The Armory Show is the United States leading art fair devoted to the most important artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries. In its twelve years, the fair has become an international institution. Every March, artists, galleries, collectors, critics and curators from all over the world make New York their destination during Armory Arts Week.

Photography (Spylab – This Utopia)

A second video I did with some of my favorite photographs taken by contemporary artists.

The last photo is of ME!! :)

This time I used more photos from different artists, so I kind of lost track of whose pictures I used, therefore I didn’t get a chance to ask for permission for all the pics this time. So if you see your photo in here, I’m so sorry that I used it without asking. And if I forgot to credit you, please message me and I’ll do it right away.
Here are some links to their pages:

Photography in Context: The Projected Photograph

The Aperture Foundation, the Photography Department at Parsons The New School for Design, and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics present a new season of panel discussions focusing on photography. Speakers including George Baker, Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and Vice-Chair of UCLA, Department of Art History; Andrea Geyer, artist and Assistant Professor of Fine Art, Parsons The New School for Design; and artists Paul Pfeiffer and Krzysztof Wodiczko, discuss projection and installation strategies many contemporary artists have used to create immersive and cinema-like experiences in their works and exhibitions.

Contemporary artists have started departing from the large, tableau vivant treatments of the photograph, as seen in works by Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, and Gregory Crewdson. In recent years, they have employed a variety of projection devices to incorporate their photographs into temporal, audio-visual experiences, which recall cinematic contexts yet retain distinctly photographic qualities. On the surface, these works seem to meld experimental and structuralist filmmaking lineages and large-scale photographic practices prevalent in the past two decades. At the same time, the new practitioners of the projected photograph are expanding the definition of photography itself.

The lecture series is presented with generous support from the Kettering Family Foundation and the Henry Nias Foundation. The program is made possible in part by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Location: Tishman Auditorium, Alvin Johnson/J. M. Kaplan Hall.

Sarah Maple – I’m an edgy contemporary artist – Manchester festival

On the 5th July I stood in the window of House of Fraser all day wearing a Miss World costume and holding up various statements I wrote throughout the day. This was part of the Manchester Festival.
Originally I wanted to display a poster in the window but HOF did not allow it. I handed out flyers instead which had no reference to HOF and were distributed away from the store.
Nobody lost their job.
