Season Five of the Peabody Award-winning television series “Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century” premieres on PBS in the United States (Fall 2009).

This trailer spotlights the artists Mary Heilmann, William Kentridge, and Yinka Shonibare MBE, offering brief glimpses of an additional eleven, dynamic and engaging contemporary artists.

    If only PBS would devote more time to visual art–this series is an important first step, but after a tantalizing taste, viewers are provided no further programming to advance their interest…I find myself oddly wishing for a return to the 70s and 80s, when funding for avant garde programs was plentiful, and the airwaves featured such fare as New Television and Alive From Off Center…
