How can I make an oil painting look old?
I have a print of a victorian painting, on canvas, done with oil, but it lacks brush strokes, and therefore looks very "flat". I want to make it look older, and I know there are products that can add a "crackle" finish, but I can’t find the products. How can I make my boring copy look a little more realistic.
You could just use a jesso or varnish and brush it onto the painting following the brush strokes the painter would have used and it will dry and look like the paint actually has brush strokes in it.
Do you think the generating of black art has slowed down in terms of contemporary art?
There were so many black artists coming out during the Harlem Renaissance. Where has the fire gone? Or is it still there?
agree.disagree?
@Lily i think youve got the wrong thing……
@jplatt yeah i appreciate what you’re saying. I have heard of Kara Walker and i love her work. And in terms of this question i was thinking more in terms of visual artists, but thanks for your input.
What has slowed down is the willingness of people to look around, not the willingness of people to come out and be cutting edge. Kara Walker’s devastating silhouettes are actually pretty common these days if you know where to look:

Bill T. Jones has been making art about being an HIV+ Gay Black Male for most of my adult life — except lately he has moved on so Bill Moyers interviewed him about a piece he did on Lincoln today and he has Fela on Broadway.
Toni Morrison is Toni Morrison, and other important voices from decades past include Amiri Baraka and Ishmael Reed, neither of whom is silenced.
In fact my sister decided she didn’t like Lenny Kravitz because of American Woman — and I find myself more and more drawn to him in BOTH an American and a Caribbean context (I believe his mother was from there and that is where he lives).
The voices are out there, and the venues are out there and to a large extent what is missing is the audiences. Education is power. Pick it up.
Where can I find A4 sized prints of art for sale online. I have google searched for this but can’t find anythi

Modern and contemporary artists who portray stereotypically beautiful women?
I’m writing my a level art dissertation on how idealized beauty has changed through the ages, and how it is presented in art. I’ve got plenty of images to discuss up until about the end of the 19th century, but that’s where I’m getting stuck. I’ve been looking at fashion photography for the more modern images, but I would like to discuss some ‘proper’ art as well rather than just media images. I can’t think of any artists or paintings in particular that celebrate idealized beauty…any ideas? thanks in advance ![]()
I think you should look at photography to talk about female stereotypes, all the colleges seem to teach is installations these days.

How can I get an oil painting of myself?
Father’s Day is just around the corner and I would like to get my husband something extraordinary for his first Father’s Day. I would like to have an oil painting of myself with our daughter, but I haven’t a clue how to go about getting this done…..Is it expensive? Any referrals for the DFW Metroplex?
Well, I have found that there are many portrait artists online that work well from photographs. Some work in pencil, some in oils…Do an engine search of portrait artists and I am sure that you will find an amazing amount of artists out there…check out their websites and their pricing and contact a few. Or, you could even check around and see if there is any local talent such as the yellow pages, or check at any galleries. If you decide to use the internet as your source, make sure that you use good clear photographs, describe exactly what you want, and make sure that you tell exact eye color as in some photographs, it is hard to tell. The pricing doesn’t seem too bad, I saw a few that charged about $200-$400 for a 16×20 portrait…so do some shopping…one website called www.portraitkingdom.com guaranteed your portrait in 10 days or it was 10 percent off…I do portraits as a hobby for friends and family and they just love them so they do make great gifts.
Good Luck.
In the literal meaning of modern art/contemporary art, how can we justify a departure from the classical?
can anyone tell me what the question is asking in a simpler way to understand?
It is asking:
1) Are the styles of the Renaissance the best form of art… if your answer is no or that all forms of art are equal, go to part two. If you say yes, just explain why we cannot depart from the classical
2) Try to explain why you think modern art is just as good or better then the classical styles. Don’t use trite and overused phrases though like "Modern art allows the artist to express themselves easier" What makes this art form worthy of being on the same pedestal of the great masters of the past? Why shouldn’t we perpetually create art based in the classical style?
Hello, I am an artist, Im looking for some place where i can sale my art ,but not on galleries.?
like Offices, Hotels, decorative centers or stores that buy wholesale.
first you should ask places like local music stores and skateboard shops to allow you to hang your art up for free and give them your contact info if they do and chances are if the places is busy enough and somebody sees the art and likes it than theyll ask who drew it and how they can contact you and possibly buy some then bam! your a paid artist
